8 Days and Counting!

Merry Christmas everyone!

I can hardly believe that it is only 8 days until Christmas and 15 days until 2011. This past year has been good in some ways and in other ways I'm really ready to have the year over.

I have some big news. I have a new job that I absolutely love. I still work for the State of Alaska, but now I work in the personnel department. I now get to see the light of day through regular sized windows.

The weather here has been cool and windy. At night we have had beautiful clear skies. I've been lucky enough to see some of the meteor showers. I wish the northern lights would now come out. Then the clear night skies would be worth the cool temperatures. The Matsu Valley had 80 mile per hour winds yesterday. I'm glad we only had 50 mile per hour winds.

Shaklee has been a great part of my year. The conference in California was wonderful, I met and made some wonderful new friends and the products have kept me healthy through some pretty nasty flu bugs. If you would like to know what I take to keep myself healthy, contact me at jkristenson@yahoo.com or greenandfit.myshaklee.com

Have an awesome holiday season.

December Already

Can you believe it? In 3 weeks it will be Christmas. Where has this year gone? My "To Do List" is still way to long. I have lots of Christmas thing still to do, plus lots of regular list stuff that is not completed either. I guess I had better get busy.

It sure was nice to wake up to clear skis after yesterday icky weather. It was hard to believe that we had horizontal rain, plus getting 4" of new snow all in one day. I think the town of Seward got worse weather than out of town. It will be fun to see what the roads are like when I go to town to the Arts and Crafts Fair (one of my favorite things Seward has in the winter).

I just finished listing to a great live Internet training with Janet Legere. She is very motivational. If I could do 1/3 of what she asks, I'd be on top everything I want to complete in my life.

I also got a great email from the Cinch Brag Book. Getting into that book is a must do on my list. If you are concerned about your Calcium and vitamin D. Take time to read the following:

New Calcium and Vitamin D Intake
Recommendations – What You Need to Know

Hello Shaklee Family,

The Institute of Medicine (IOM) just released the report "Dietary Reference Intakes for Calcium and Vitamin D" that establishes higher recommended intake levels for vitamin D. The new Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for children and adults ages 1-70 has been increased to 600 IU/day and the RDA for those aged 71+ has also been raised to 800 IU/day. The Tolerable Upper Intake Level was raised from 2,000 to 4,000 IU/day for adults. Calcium intake RDAs remained essentially the same with a range of 700 – 1,300 mg per day depending on age and sex. The full report can be accessed at http://shaklee.custhelp.com/rd?1=AvUg~wqRKP8Sx9LbGvAe~yL~Jvsq~6T~JUT3jjr~&2=11646.

We recognize that the goals of the IOM are to make broad-based recommendations for the entire population, and develop reference values that serve to guide nutrient guidelines for the US and Canada. We applaud the IOM for updating the vitamin D and calcium nutritional reference values established in 1997, for the potential far-reaching benefits to public health, but we also believe that such modest adjustments in recommended intakes may under-serve the many population groups who are at potential risk for low intakes of calcium and/or vitamin D..

We also want to take this opportunity to reiterate that Shaklee’s mission is to support optimal health for everyone, and in this case, we believe the potential benefits of calcium and vitamin D supplementation go well beyond simple nutritional adequacy and bone health. Scientific research links vitamin D inadequacy to an increased risk for certain cancers, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and diabetes, and higher intakes of vitamin D may help reduce the risk of these diseases. These are precisely the reasons we conducted our own extensive review of the scientific literature and sponsored two independent vitamin D research studies. We also recently adjusted our individual vitamin D intake recommendations based on an individual’s risk factors for vitamin D insufficiency.

It has been estimated that as many as 80% of Americans may have “insufficient” blood levels of vitamin D and there are many reasons why low vitamin D levels seem to be commonplace today. The season or calendar month is a major risk factor for vitamin D insufficiency because sunlight is less efficient during winter months at triggering vitamin D production in the skin. The risk for vitamin D insufficiency rises as sunscreen use and time spent indoors increases. The latitude of your residence is another determinant of sun exposure and those with darker skin are less efficient at converting sunlight to vitamin D. Other factors that can increase risk for vitamin D inadequacy include increasing age, increasing body mass index, lack of exercise, and low intake of fish and other vitamin D rich foods in the diet.

While we support the IOM for the long-awaited adjustments to the calcium RDAs, increases to the vitamin D RDAs, and the increased Safe Upper Levels of Intake (UL) for vitamin D, we also remain committed to individualized and potentially higher vitamin D intake recommendations based on an individual’s unique vitamin D risk factor profile.

For more information about calcium, vitamin D, and your health, talk with your doctor or healthcare professional to discuss the steps you should take to achieve optimal calcium and vitamin D intakes. To obtain an individual vitamin D intake recommendation from Shaklee Health Sciences, based on your own risk factor profile, take the Vitamin D-Ology questionnaire at http://shaklee.custhelp.com/rd?

Sending warmest regards,

I just got plowed out. I did not realize there was as much snow as there is. I had to go move my car. Now this afternoon I get to go clean up the small berms that are left. It will be good exercise for me.

Well, I need to get this completed and my day going. Have a great week.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving. It is that time of the year to sit back and think about all the things we are thankful for. My list is very long. Thank you for being part of my life!!

New!! New!! New!!

Only 43 days until January 1,2011. Can you believe that it is one week until Thanksgiving and 36 days until Christmas? I hope be cooking great meals on those great days. These are two my favorite holidays. I hope that everyone has a fantastic holiday season!

We have been having really cool weather. Yesterday it was -4 with wind chill. I'm glad that most of our snow has disappeared. If we don't get any more snow all winter, I'll be very happy.

I have a new possibility for more income (besides Shaklee). I just interviewed for a new job. I hope to hear tomorrow. I will be very disappointed if I don't get this job. With the economy the way it is, I can most definitely use a pay raise.

I am going to try a new strategy for getting people involved with Shaklee. I'm looking for anyone that may know someone that needs some extra money, their home detoxified, wants to loose weight, or want to get healthy. Shaklee can do all of these things. This week many Shaklee Distributors are on a free cruise because they reached their 350 point goals. Next year the free trip is to Atlantis. Shaklee is also now doing car payments for people that have three distributors working under them. Please let me know if there is anyone they know that can use any of these life changing opportunities.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!!!!!!!!!

Excited!!

I'm so excited. The 2011 B & B reservations are starting to arrive on the Internet. I think this is the earliest I've every had reservations. I had two inquiries about B&B reservations today. Let's hope next Summer is even better than last Summer.

Can you believe this snow? I've just shoveled 22" off the deck. The only thing good about this snow is that I exercise more than normal. I've very nervous about getting plowed out so I can go to work tomorrow. If I don't get plowed I hope my RAV can get me through all the snow.

I'm starting to think about Thanksgiving dinner. I'm planning to stay at home, not get out of my PJ's, cook for no one but me. I love to cook, but this year I don't want to have to clean house, be able to stay at home, and just enjoy my day by myself. The bad part of Thanksgiving is that I have to work the next day. :( This is one thing I miss about teaching.

My Shaklee is going better than it was. I wish that more people would realize that Shaklee is all natural, no toxins and has been tested more than any other company claiming to be all natural. It may cost a little more, but what price can you put on your own health and wellness. Plus you can make a good living being a Shaklee distributor.

Hmmmmmmm!

Things that make you say "HMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!

Well, it has been a while since I wrote on my blog. Fall is pretty much over and winter is fast approaching. We now have snow on the mountains down to tree line. The last couple of mornings it has been very frosty. Luckily I had my studded tires put on this week. On Thursday and Friday the road to work was slick.

My summer gardening is done. The plants have either been put in storage for the winter or become worm food. I also planted over 200 bulbs for next Spring. I can hardly wait to see them all blooming. I also have some more exciting plans for planting flowers and making some new flower beds.

It is hard to believe that tomorrow is Halloween. I wonder how many trick or treaters will come. There is a huge carnival in town. I know lots and lots for families go to the carnival plus, trick or treat in the neighborhood.

Shaklee is just the same. I wish I could get family, friends and just about anyone to understand how the truly pure the cleaning products are or how natural the nutritional product are, but most of all I wish I could convince everyone just how much money could be made if you became a Shaklee Distributor.

Fall

These past few days/weeks have been wonderful. We have had lots of wonderful weather. Most of my outside work is completed. I've planted about 300 bulbs, built a new flower bed out by my B&B sign, cut down some alders, cleared away some brush and put away the flower pots that I want to winter over the plants. Now I'm ready to enjoy whatever comes my way.

I'm sorry that I think the B&B season is now over. No more calls or emails. Now I have to decide what to do for prices for the coming Summer. Anyone want to come and stay or if you know anyone coming to Seward? I can make you a great deal. This is the best season I've had in three years. I hope that next Summer is even better than this season.

Oh, this is just a reminder that I no longer have a land line. Email or send me a private message on Facebook to get my cell number.

My Shaklee business is not going as well as I would like, but I'm still working on it. I guess if it was easy everyone would be a member and I would not be making any money.

Have a great minute/hour/day/week/month. Please feel free to contact me or comment on my blog!!

Snow???

Well, we have had a bit of frost, the leaves are all falling to the ground and it feels like it could snow. We now have lots of termination dust on the mountain tops. The view out the front windows is not as wonderful as it was last Friday. I wonder how long it will be before we have snow on the ground. =(

I need to get better at taking pictures and adding them to my blog. I know I don't have many people that read my blog, but it is good writing practice. As some of you know, I hate to write.

Why is it that by Friday night, I'm so tired, I have a hard time staying up past 9:00pm? If I'd go to bed at 9:00 I'd be back up by midnight and up for the rest of the night.

Not much to tell this week in the way of the B&B. I'm kind of glad that it has slowed down. I'm ready for a short break, but I'll miss the mortgage help.

Have a great first of October!!

Fun, Frost and Flowers

What a day!! We hard our first frost last night. It stayed away longer than I thought. Most of my flowers have long since stopped blooming. Now I can get them all ready for the winter. I also need to plant the rest of my spring blooming bulbs.

This summer with all my new flower boxes and other landscaping, I've forgotten how much fun working/playing in the dirt can be. I am also having a great time mowing, weed whacking, removing weeds, pulling small trees and trying to create areas of grass. I think that next Summer the year will look 100% better.

It is amazing. I am still having B&B guests. It is a miracle. I hope the miracle continues all winter.

Have a great week. It is hard to believe that on Friday it will be October. Where has 2010 gone?

Wednesday, September 22, 2010

Now What??

The great weather has gone, but still no frost. The flowers and garden are looking pretty ragged. The leaves are falling off the trees and the mornings are very dark. I guess that summer is over and fall has started.

B&B news:
I'm so excited. I'm still having B&B guest into September. I wish I would have clients all winter long.

FALL?????????????

Can you believe the weather we have been having. How come we did not have this kind of weather in July??

I did not do any berry picking this year, due to not many berries and lots of bears wanting the berries I was going to pick.
Speaking of bears, boy have they been out and about all over the Seward area. I'm glad that no person has been hurt by a bear. I was however, sad when they had to put down and couple of bears that were getting into garbage, houses and other things that bears need to stay away from.

B&B season is over for the most part. I will be open all winter, but not many people want to stay out of town. But if you would like to come and stay, give me a call (362-1584) and a room will be ready whenever you want to arrive.

Shaklee is going great. With the new products, opportunity to get car payments and the new "Dream Plan", I'm sure that my business will be getting better in the very near future. If you would like information on Shaklee, how to get a car or how to make money, please give me a call (362-1584) or go to me website: alaskajan.myshaklee.com

Where to start???

Life is very very very busy at the moment. I'm still getting reservations for this summer at the B&B; spending lots of hours working on my Shaklee business, plus I want to have fun if and when Seward has wonderful weather.

B&B: this summer the B&B has been amazing. July was awesome with only 5 nights with no guests. When I got back from the Shaklee convention, there were a couple of days before we had people stay, but once they started coming it has been non-stop. Just today I got a reservation for 3 nights into September. I hope that next summer the B&B is busier than this year.

Shaklee: Anyone out there want to early lots of money ($100,000.00 in 15 months), earn car payments and qualify for great trips to San Francisco, Atlantis, and Bora Bora. If you are interested call me or email me and I can tell you the steps to take to get these great trips and earn extra money. Besides these wonderful things that Shaklee has to offer, Shaklee products are out of this world in nutritional value, backed up by millions of dollars spent on testing, plus makes you feel great and keeps you healthy.

I hope to be hearing from you real soon with questions and drive to a better life style.

Thunder, Lightening and Shaklee

Boy, did we have a storm last night. We usually don't get thunder or lightening during the summer. However, last night we got both plus lots of rain. My poor flowers don't know what to do with all of this water. They are looking sadder and sadder every day they don't have any sunshine.
I'm getting very excited about going to the Shaklee convention next week. There is supposed to be lots of new and wonderful products coming out, new incentives for getting points so that I can go on the next great 5 star trip, and win wonderful (expensive) prizes. If you would like to get in on all this excitement contact me at greenandfit.myshaklee.com or
call me at (907) 362-1584 Shaklee is really a great way to make extra money and use all natural/organic products.
Shaklee has cleaning, health, and beauty products. I've tried almost all of them. It always amazes me that they really work.
Have a wonderful week. I hope to hear from you sometime soon.

Summer?

What happened to the wonderful summer weather Seward was having in May and June? It is hard to believe that it was only 48 the other morning. How about all that rain that we had yesterday? My poor flowers and grass. The flowers/veggies are drowning and my grass is out of control. I need some sunny dry weather to work outside!!
The B & B guests are trying to stay warm and dry. Some of the the guests are wondering if we really do have a mountain in our view. I had guests for three nights and they did not see the mountain once while they were here.
I'm trying to figure what to do for next years B&B advertising, prices, and how many rooms to rent out. Help me decide.
If you read this blog, pass it onto other friends. I'd love to have a bunch of members.

Friday, July 2, 2010

Wow, the B & B has been very busy and it is only going to get busier over the next four weeks. The flowers are blooming, the B & B is very busy, my Shaklee business getting started, I have tomatoes on the vine and life is very good. The only thing I'd change is having more green grass.

I hope that everyone else is having the most marvelous Summer.

Best B & B

I am now remembering why I started the B & B. This week I have birders from Belgium and Germany staying for three days. Then I have a couple from Australia staying for two days. B & B sure lets you get to know what a wonderful world we live in. If you have the capability do a
B & B.

Saturday, June 5, 2010

What a day!! I had to go to Anchorage to pick up some last minute things before the B & B guests start coming.

I had lots of firsts on this trip.
1st time to buy a lawn mower.
1st time to buy worms for composting.
1st time to buy hanging wave petunias.
1st time to buy tree/scrub trimmers.
1st time to buy mulch for flower beds.

Home and B & B ownership is a purchasing and learning process. I can not say that I'm to old to learn new tricks!!!

Memorial Day 2010!!!

Thank you to all the military women and men that have served to protect our country's freedom. I'm thankful every day that I live in a free country. Thank you again for helping keeping us free.

What a weekend in Seward. The weather has been amazingly wonderful. The sun has been out, the wind has been reasonable, and I'm now ready to plant the rest of my flowers.

This weekend the tourist's have now started taking over Seward. I just wish the B & B was fuller. Oh well, I'm sure they will come as the season goes along.

Tuesday, May 25, 2010

I think it was one of the most perfect days I've ever had in Seward. The mountain view was awesome, the tulips are just about ready to bloom, Anne is once again digging holes to find cooler spots to relax and the fire pit as ready to use. It was 67 and no wind. I sat on the deck in a zero gravity chair and took a quick nap.

I wish you were here to share this with me.

Amazing

I forgot to tell you about all the amazing animals I saw on the way to work last week. One thing I really like about this time of the year is all the wild life that if out and about. I saw several moose, a little black bear, coyote, eagles, and before I left home hummingbirds drinking at the feeders.

I also heard that there was a huge herd of sea lions that had followed the fish into the bay. I saw several pictures. It was awesome to see that many sea lions in one spot.

Come visit and see if you can't see these animals too.

Saturday, May 22, 2010

Well, is Spring here? I still have piles of snow, but they are getting smaller every day. The fire pit has just come out of the snow. Now I just need to get my flowers, herbs and veggies planted. Let's hope this summer is a sunny one.

The B & B reservations are looking better than last year. I hope the reservations keep pouring in.

Have a great day, week, month.

Friday, April 23, 2010

Enough already!!

Okay it is the 23 of April and there was 3 inches of snow on the ground this morning. Only good thing about getting snow this late in the year, is I know that it will melt pretty fast. I think it is time for the snow to stop so that I can plant my flowers and veggies.

Sunday, April 4, 2010

Easter Sunday and 1st B & B Guests

What a wonderful day, even though it snowed. Easter Sunday was wonderful. I played the bells at the Methodist Church. I love playing the bells. My Dad and Grandpa would have loved coming to watch me play the bells. I wish my Mom could/would come and watch me play the bells.

I had my first B & B guests this weekend. It is a couple that has been here three times before. I love having repeat visitors. If you know of anyone coming to Seward this summer and they need a place to stay. Send them to alaskaglaciercreek.com.

Snow

Boy, am I ready for the snow to be gone. I know that it will take a while and the wait will be worth it.

I'm getting more and more excited about planting flowers and veggie this Spring. I have three brand new flower boxes that will be on the south side of the house. It is hard deciding what to plant in them.

Now that I have the three flower boxes, my next project is to get a great green house, a couple of flower boxes on the north side of the house and a lawn like many of my friends have. In about 10 years it will all be in place.

Wednesday, March 17, 2010

Almost 12 hours of light.

It has been absolutely beautiful the last two days. The snow is slowly melting. I can't wait to start planting veggies and flowers.

The B & B reservations are still really slow, but I'm hoping they will increase over the next several weeks.

My Shaklee business is getting better and better every day. If you have any questions about Shaklee, please contact me and I'd be glad to answer all you questions.

B & B Alaska

I have a great B & B two miles outside Seward, Alaska. I'm having a hard time getting reservations for the 2010 season. The prices are comparable to other B & B's in the area. The views are amazing, the rooms all have their own bathrooms, it is very quiet, I use all natural products to clean, I serve continental breakfast that consists of fresh fruit, toast, jam or jelly, coffee, tea, juice, and several kinds of cereal. You can eat breakfast at any time of the day. If you have any questions check out my website: alaskaglaciercreek.com

I hope to be getting lots of great ideas.
